The Rebuild
If you have read the original Z Gauge article 'Setting Up', on page 4 - On The Move you will recall that in May 2013 it was partially dismantled because it was being moved from its permanent location to a new one. This articles follows the rebuilding of the layout.
This is a reminder of the layout when partially dismantled to move it.
I have finally found time to start working on the layout again. As you can see the worst affected part was around the raised forest and the river feed to the waterfall.
I have decided to change the layout so that I can lift the 'forest' if necessary to gain access to the track without the need to disturb the waterfall and river.
Just in case you are wondering about the hooks, they will be left in but hidden in the trees so that it will be easier for me to lift the top when necessary.
The work continues.

Following on from Phase 1, here is further development of the layout, starting with the snow and trees.
Some trees had bases and so I removed these, the only problem was that the had very short trunks as shown. This is where the cotton buds come in handy, I removed the cotton heads and cut the tubes into 3. I painted them brown and and slotted the trees into them. With the small hand drill I drilled holes for the trees, dropped a blob of glue on the holes and then put the trees in them.
More 'snow' added, the snow is just white plaster, to be sprinkled later with modellers snow powder.
A slight change with the river, the screwdriver in the feed tube is to stop it getting clogged up while working around it. I have used gloss yacht varnish for the base of the river, this serves two purposes firstly, it waterproofs it and secondly when the water is not actually running it still gives a realistic water look.
These pictures show the layout with the rest of the trees, bushes etc. added the snow effect sprinkled. It isn't evident by these photographs but the river does have running water.
More Greenery added.
All the rolling stock was made by Marklin.
The waterfall and river once again has its running water .
