Meccano Bridge & Picnic Area, Nob End, Little Lever, Bolton

The Meccano Bridge replaces a basic wooden bridge that allowed boatmen and horses to cross the top chamber of the (Nob End) Prestolee flight of locks on the Manchester, Bury and Bolton Canal, where the towpath changes sides.

Looking towards the picnic area.

Close up of one of the benches.

As with the bridge, the picnic benches are made from the 10x-scaled pieces of Meccano.

Plenty of restoration work still to be done.

Manchester Bolton & Bury Canal Society Working Party at the locks.

The MBBC Society is hoping to fill and connect this stretch to the Bolton Branch which is in water. Doing this would make the bridge an essential link in the public footpath as well as make an attractive feature on the canal in its own right.  It will also create better links between Little Lever and Moses Gate Country Park.
